The Norfolk County Quilters’ Guild is offering 2 Andrea Tsang Jackson workshops in April, (virtually, since Andrea lives in Nova Scotia!) Both of them involve a Swan and a Lone Star Centre. One is a small 20″ x 20″ piece that can be completed in one day. The other is a larger 58″ x 66″ piece that includes the reflection of the swan as it glides through water.
Tuesday, April 20, 2021 (via Zoom) All-Day Workshop to complete the small project, Our Song Swan — Lone Star Swan. The fee is $85.00 and includes the pattern and all instructions.
Those that want to finish the large project, Our Song, Your Reflection, will attend on this day and will complete the small project. They will then attend a half-day workshop on the following day, Wednesday, April 21, 2021 (via Zoom). On this day, Andrea will provide instructions for putting together the larger project. This fee is $140 and includes the two patterns.
Andrea is an excellent teacher and has lots of tips for foundation paper piecing and sewing lone star diamonds. You can find more about her at

Please join us virtually on March 8th at 7 pm for “Behind the Seams” with Peter Byrne. Guests welcome! Please see FAQs above!
Hello quilters, my name is Peter Byrne. I am an international award-winning, published modern quilter and teacher with a deep passion for innovation and design. My strength is maintaining a fresh approach to quilting, with original designs and technical mastery.
My goal is innovation, my passion is creativity and I am thrilled to have opportunities to share new techniques within the quilting community. While attending QuiltCon 2020, my quilt titled ‘Starring You’ won Best in Show and my quilt titled ‘Cityscape” won Best Machine Quilting Frameless.
After 25 years working as a stylist and salon owner I retired, and then had time to explore new creative outlets. I started making quilt in 2009 and to further my quilting experience, in 2017 I joined the Toronto Modern Quilting Guild and when I walked into that first guild meeting, I had never quilted a quilt.
It was at this time, I became a full time student of the craft and 2 years later, I designed and made Starring You. I’m very excited to share my quilts, dreams and ambitions with you and look forward to meeting you at my Trunk Show!
Here are all the places you can find me! Email: petersquilts@gmail.com Instagram @petersquilts and @hoverquilting. You can find me on Facebook under Peter Byrne and I invite you to check out my website at www.peterbquilts.com
Wasn’t that a great meeting with Brett Lewis? You can find more about him and his work at his webpage, Natural Born Quilter. He has truly mastered social media for showcasing his work. Facebook is here and Instagram is here. You can see his energy! The webpage has links to podcasts and interviews also. A link to the recording of the Zoom meeting will be sent to members by email shortly.
Brett’s second line of fabric from Northcott Fabrics will be out in September and this Prairie Reflections free pattern is out now. You can find it here. The pattern also includes directions on how to splice pattern match 2 different colourways of a pattern, as in the central square!
Brett’s first line of fabric can be found at the Kingfisher Craft Company, although some fabrics are sold out. They even have kits with hardware for some of the bags Brett showed.
If you want to punch up your English Paper Piecing, look up what Brimfield Awakening has done! Use the slider to see the 2 colourways!
All in all, lots of inspiration! Who wants to use their new Foundation Paper Piecing skills to make some New York Beauty blocks?
We have 2 blocks to do this month. We will start with “Raw Edges” and release “Curves” in 2 weeks! You can find the PDF here and Sandra’s instructional blog post here! Be sure to print page 2 of the PDF, the circle template, at “full size” or “100%” or “no scaling”. Or skip that step and use household bowls to draw your circles! The measurements are 7” and 8.5”!
Please join us at 7pm for a great presentation from Brett Lewis. Brett Lewis is a dad and husband, works full-time, and lives in Edmonton Alberta. Natural Born Quilter is a nickname given to him by his sister early on in his quilting journey. You can find his website here!
Brett has accomplished a lot in his almost 5 years of quilting. He is a teacher, lecturer, pattern designer and certified Sew Kind of Wonderful teacher. He is also a fabric designer for Northcott Fabrics and has recently introduced his second line, Prairie Meadow, which features his favourite plants and animals of the prairie. Brett has been interviewed on several podcasts and CBC radio, and is active on Facebook and Instagram.
Brett’s presentation, Becoming Natural Born Quilter, will surely be entertaining, energetic and inspiring! The Zoom meeting link will be emailed to members on the weekend before our Monday night meeting. Guests are welcome. $5 and details can be found in our FAQs above. And please, send in your Show and Tell photos by Sunday to twilightsimcoe@gmail.com.
Our first virtual Midwinter Sew-tist Retreat starts tomorrow! Saturday, January 30 and Sunday, January 31 starting at 9 am and going until everyone is too tired to be online! There are early birds and I’m sure there are night owls out there! There are 8 great gift certificate draws spread out over the 2 days, but you must be there at the draw time to win!
Here is the Zoom link, our regular Sit and sew link. We are going to be using breakout rooms for several things. If you have the latest version of the Zoom app, you have more control over the breakout rooms. You can choose which room you want to go into, for example. If you are using a tablet or iPad, hopefully you have it set to automatically update apps. My iPad is using version 5.4.10. If you have a laptop, you can check for updates by hovering over the “zoom.us” at the very top left corner. Select “Check for Updates” in the drop down menu. My Mac is using version 5.4.9. If you are not using an app and just Zooming through your browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox) you are updated. And if you don’t understand this, don’t worry. We can put in the breakout room for the Retreat bag and the Foundation Paper Piecing and you can leave on your own when you want.
One last reminder! Have your power cord handy. You won’t be able to play all day on one charge! See you soon!
