Many of us struggle with knowing how to use scraps effectively. Learn a fast and simple way to turn your scrap stash into a gorgeous starry sky and so much more! This humble block is stitched from 2.5″ squares (or strips) to make a 4-patch that has 100 options.
Most fabrics work into StarQuar quilts beautifully, so you can use leftovers or your most favourite fabrics, or both. Concepts covered include value, contrast, colour, scale, difficult prints and more, plus many ideas for using these units in a variety of ways. You’ll catch a vision for how diverse fabrics can work together and become something much greater than the sum of its parts. StarQuar scrap quilts could not be more fun!!!
We’ll complete at least one block and one side panel of Karen’s Cool as a Cactus pattern in class. Registrants will get a link to a video about selecting fabrics for this beautiful quilt.
We are excited to announce our virtual workshop with Karen Bolan!
Saturday, March 25 & Sunday, March 26 1 to 4 p.m. each day

Are you intimidated by curves but love precision piecing? Start the Cool as a Cactus quilt in class, featuring pieced curves, a unique border treatment, and a colour palette that features transparency.
The class will begin with an exercise in creating transparency effects; then, we will work from paper templates to accurately cut and piece large-diameter curves. Learn to cut and precisely piece large-diameter curves from templates, assemble a quilt top with pieced borders, and plan a colour palette that includes a transparency effect.
Create your own, unique small wall hanging. In class we will cover the basic Dresden blocks and then some of the Dresden 201 blocks which allow for creative piecing. Your choice. You can start with a background of your choice (pieced or solid) or wait until your blocks are made.
It will be tons of creative fun and easy for all from confident beginner up. Bring your willingness to be creative and step a little outside the box.

Hover-quilting is a new form of raw edge appliqué, absent of fusible web. This innovative technique produces not only a beautiful controlled frayed edge, but also creates the illusion of your piecing hovering above the quilt top.
On day one, students will focus on preparing their quilt sandwich, make 36 HST’s and finish the design layout. On day two, you will complete a 16-inch square mini hover-quilt. Students will learn unique design elements such as Cathedral Window, a School of Fabric and Pathways that make this technique so versatile and creative.
Kits are available for $35 plus $5 bulk shipping. Peter’s Hover-quilting kits have been made with Colorworks Premium Solids from Northcott Fabric and include beautiful prints from Northcott’s Artisan Spirit Collection called “Shimmer” and have been paired with Cherrywood Hand Dyed Fabrics. They include a spool of 60 wt Perfect Cotton-Plus thread, a No Slip Ruler and Soft-Blend Batting. Kits are available with your choice of a black background or white background.
